Chief of Staff Benny Gantz of the Israel Defense Forces accepted, Thursday, the resignation of Central District Commander Avi Mizrachi, who recently lost out in his bid to become deputy chief of staff. General Gadi Eisenkott, who was appointed to the post, is expected to contend with outgoing Deputy Chief of Staff Yair Naveh to succeed Gantz.
General Mizrachi's military career started in the Golani Brigade, after which he moved to the Armored Corps and moved up in the ranks. He was promoted to the rank of general in 2005, heading the IDF's Logistics Branch during the Second Lebanon War. In 2007, he replaced Gantz as commander of Israel's ground forces. Two years later, he was named to head the Central Command.
