Ban Ki-moon 'Dissapointed' by Assad's Speech

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said Monday that Syrian President Bashar Assad has no real plans to end the "terrible suffering" of the Syrian people, adding that he has shown no willingness to negotiate or accept an international roadmap to end the violent civil war.

UN spokesman Martin Nesirky cited Assad's speech Monday which the opposition took as a sign that Assad has no intention of ever stepping down and that his speech was an invitation for all out war.

“The secretary-general was disappointed that the speech ... does not contribute to a solution that could end the terrible suffering of the Syrian people,” said Nesirky.
