Chief Rabbi: If You're Not in Yeshivah, Enlist

The Chief Rabbi of Israel, Rabbi Yona Metzger, participated in the Jerusalem Conference Monday afternoon and addressed the issue of recruiting haredim into the IDF.

The Chief Rabbis said that those who study in yeshivah, "are part of the protection of the people and the country, they are a part of the the army of Israel which I am proud to have served in."

Rabbi Metzger said that the ultra-orthodox who don't learn in yeshivah should join the army, citing the Chief Rabbinate's support for women enlisting in the iDF as proof that times are changing.
