Chairman of the newspaper "BeSheva", David Saada, commented on Monday's protest by left wing activists against the pro-life organization Efrat and its head, Dr. Eli Schussheim, who received the paper's Jerusalem Prize.
"We say clearly: The Efrat Association deserved this award even last year because they did great things and in the next year as well, but we are giving it this year because of all the unnecessary and unfounded media and public hoopla."
Efrat received public flack after a Channel 2 report blamed the organization for the death of 18-year-old Raz Atias, whose girlfriend was pregnant and who, despite family pressure, did not want to abort the baby. Atias planned to commit suicide with his girlfriend and was shot to death by mistake by policemen. The Channel 2 report blamed unnamed Efrat "volunteers" for allegedly pressuring the young parents not to abort the pregnancy. The organization denied the allegation.
