Yishai Willing to Exempt Citizens from Levies

Interior Minister Eli Yishai said on Sunday he was willing to exempt citizens from levies and fees attached to the construction of protected spaces in their homes, but stressed that such a move requires permission from the Ministry of Finance.

Speaking to Kol Yisrael radio in response to an investigative report which found that the state does not help residents in major cities in the south to build protected spaces, imposing levies and fees on them instead, Yishai said that even if the state loses a few tens or hundreds of millions of shekels from the exemption of the fees, it would be earning billions of shekels by saving lives and property.
