Comptroller Criticizes Many in Report on Harpaz Affair

A report, released Sunday by the State Comptroller's Office, levelled serious criticism at a series of people from former chief of staff Gabi Ashkenazi of the Israel Defense Forces and Defense Minister Ehud Barak and their aides to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu regarding intrigues surrounding the selection of Ashkenazi's replacement. The case was brought to light because of the "Harpaz Document", a forgery by reserves officer Boaz Harpaz to shed a bad light on General Yoav Galant, a candidate for the post. Harpaz said he was motivated by the early timing of the selection process.

The comptroller recommended putting the selection process for chief of staff in writing, including when it is supposed to begin, relative to the end of the chief of staff's term.
