AG Supports Banning Trade of Monkeys for Monetary Gain

An initiative to ban the import of monkeys to Mazor Farms and limit their activities to medical research in Israel only, led by Environmental Protection Minister Gilad Erdan, was approved Saturday by Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein.

The Attorney General confirmed the proposal to ban the export of monkeys for experimental purposes, except in the case of life-saving experiments. Minister Erdan welcomed the decision and said that stopping the trade of monkeys greatly strengthens the protection of animals and sends a clear message that trading animals for financial gain is wrong. The Environmental Protection Agency will soon publish detailed regulations regarding the new laws.
