A memorial observance for Major-General Nehemiah Tamari is scheduled for Friday afternoon at 12:30 at the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul.
The commander of the Central Command was killed on January 12, 1994, the 29th of the Hebrew month of Tevet, when his helicopter crashed near command headquarters. During his career, he participated in the operation to rescue passengers and crew of a hijacked Air France flight in Entebbe, Uganda. Tamari went on to command the Sayeret Matkal special forces unit which carried out the operation. He also commanded the Paratroop and Nachal Brigades.
