PA Waives Electricity Bills for Private Citizens

The Palestinian Authority, headed by Salaam Fayyad, has given in to public pressure and decided to waive the last several years of electricity bill payments for PA residents, reports Israel's Channel 2.

The waiver is for private households only and does not include businesses.

The PA, however, owes hundreds of millions of Israeli Shekels to Israel's Electric Company, which supplies its electricity. Some of the money was transferred to the Israeli supplier recently, when Israel deducted an initial sum owed from tax revenues that it collects for the PA.
