Obama: Fiscal Cliff Agreement 'In Sight'

US President Barack Obama said moments ago that judging by the progress that is currently being made Washington, an agreement to avoid the "fiscal cliff" is "in sight," but, he added, the deal is not yet complete and there is still more work to be done before the midnight deadline fast approaches.

Speaking in the White House Monday evening, Obama said, “There are still issues left to resolve but I am hopeful that Congress can get it done. But it’s not done."

Obama used the press conference as a means to bring the urgency of the situation to the American public and to push Congress to make a deal.

Obama said he would like to see a “grand bargain, a bigger deal”, but that it was “too much to hope for at this time,” and that a solution to America’s budget and deficit problems would most likely come in stages.
