Fine, Compensation, Probation for Insulting IDF Rabbi

The Jerusalem Magistrates Court fined Rabbi Elitzur Segal 3,000 shekels, Monday, and ordered him to pay 4,000 shekels to former chief rabbi Yisrael Weiss of the Israel Defense Forces for Segal's conviction on a charge of insulting a public servant for an article Rabbi Segal wrote on the Manhigut Yehudit (Jewish Leadership) Website before the 2005 Disengagement from Gaza and northern Samaria (Shomron). The rabbi was also put on probation for six months.

In the article, Rabbi Segal wrote a number of claims against Rabbi Weiss, summarized in a particularly objectionable paragraph. The court ruled that Rabbi Segal could have gone through channels to state his claims instead of publishing the article.
