The Research Department of the Bank of Israel held its annual conference in Jerusalem to deal with fiscal policy issues. Bank of Israel Governor Stanley Fischer stated, "in terms of growth we are in relatively good shape. The average growth rate in recent years has been about 3.7%. At the present time we are growing."
 
Governor Fischer also predicted greater growth as a result of the newly discovered natural gas fields off the coast of Haifa.
