United States President Barack Obama is planning to end his vacation early Wednesday and to head back to Washington in an attempt to avoid the "fiscal cliff." If lawmakers cannot agree on a smaller national budget, a series of dramatic spending cuts and tax increases will go into effect as 2013 begins.
Obama and congressional Republicans have been in talks for several weeks but have yet to reach an agreement.
