Chairman Avigdor Lieberman of the Yisrael Beyteinu party issued a media release, Tuesday morning, which sought to refute the rumors about the ongoing investigation against him. The statement said, "In the last 24 hours, the media have been flooded with various leaks and rumors that have no connection with reality. I want to stress that all the apparent 'rumors and quotes' from me or 'associates' regarding claims that will apparently be made with the police or the slander of other people never happened and their entire purpose is manipulation - not especially sophisticated - to disrupt the proceedings and throw sand in the eyes of the public. I will say all that I have to say at the end of the police investigation and in court."
Lieberman stepped down as foreign minister when it was announced that he would be indicted for fraud and breach of trust in the case of the appointment of a candidate for ambassador to Belarus who had given him information on police probes against him.
