Report: Syrian Jet Equipped for Chemical Weapons Use

The MiG 21 of a Syrian pilot who defected to Jordan in June was secretly designed to carry chemical weapons and to be used without a pilot, according to a Tuesday morning report by the Yisrael Hayom daily. Western sources believe other planes were similarly converted.

The Russian embassy in Damascus announced, Monday, that it intended to investigate reports that the government of President Bashar Al-Assad used poison gas to kill and wound people in the city of Homs, according to Arab media. There is speculation that the suffering of the survivors may have been staged by rebels to spur international involvement in the 21-month-old Syrian civil war.
