Shabbat Opening at J'lem's Old Rail Station Protested

Jerusalem City Council members from the United Torah Judaism party have written to Mayor Nir Barkat to protest his encouragement for new restaurants to open in Jerusalem's old railroad station on Shabbat.

The council members claim it's the first time a local-government leader has issued such a call, adding, "We believe the word accidentally left your mouth and call on you to immediately take back the serious, miserable word, which tramples on the day of rest of the Jewish people, and ask you, as a Jew, to honor this holy day."
