Eight new local leaders announced, Thursday that they are joining the Likud party and supporting Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu. The announcement came during a gathering of 50 local leaders who belong to the party.
The eight include Chairman Motti Dotan of the Lower Galilee Regional Council, a former member of the Labor party. Coming from the Kadima party were Eilat Mayor Meir Yitzchak Halevi, Mayor Jackie Sabag of Naharia, Kiryat Yam Mayor Shmuel Sisu and Mayor Zohar Oved of Tiberias, as well as Local Council Chairman Gabi Ne'eman of Shlomi. Also joining Thursday was Shai Hajaj of the Merchavim Regional Council. They join Chairman Shmulik Rifman of the Ramat Hanegev Regional Council, who announced his support for Netanyahu at the beginning of the week.
