The Jerusalem Municipality recently set up a Christmas tree and a special tent for Christmas at the Jaffa Gate which leads into the Old City. Council member Shmuel Yitzhaki told Arutz Sheva news, "Jaffa Gate is a public place that the Jewish people pass on their way to the Western Wall." Yitzchaki said that residents have complained to him and plan to hold a prayer rally on Sunday which coincides with the fast of the Tenth of Tevet.
Former council member Mina Fenton stated, "they have a Christian Quarter. They can put it [the Christmas tree] there."
The Jerusalem Municipality said "the city is working for the welfare of all sectors in the city while providing freedom of religion."
