Defense Minister Ehud Barak expressed sorrow Wednesday at the death of former IDF Chief of Staff Amnon Lipkin-Shahak. “Amnon Shahak was an example of courage, leadership and persistence both on the battlefield and in the realm of diplomacy,” he said. “He was a pillar of Israeli defense over the past two generations.”
“Amnon was active all his life in the IDF, in the government, and as a citizen, to bring peace and security to Israel,” Barak added. Lipkin-Shahak “was a great man, and a friend,” he said.
