Gal-On Petitions High Court for Lieberman's Ouster

As promised, Chairwoman Zahava Gal-On petitioned the Supreme Court, Friday morning, to remove Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman from office, following Thursday's announcement that Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein would seek indictments of fraud and breach of trust against the Yisrael Beyteinu leader. The petition asked the court to instruct Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to fire Lieberman, for Lieberman to quit and for Weinstein to add a legal opinion to the indictment in which he makes it clear that Lieberman must be removed because the charges carry the possible label of moral turpitude, which could disqualify Lieberman.

Gal-On argued that the charges of fraud and breach of trust violate the basic elements of integrity in public office which, in turn, harms public trust and democracy. She said a cloud of suspicion and accusations surrounds Lieberman's public activities.
