The White House played host, Thursday evening, to candle-lighting ceremonies for the sixth night of Hanukkah. The 90-year-old hanukkiah [Hanukkah candelabra -ed.] used for the observance was brought from a Long Island, New York synagogue, where it had survived Hurricane Sandy. Guests included Israeli ambassador Michael Oren and United States Supreme Court Justices Elana Kagan and Ruth Ginsburg.
U.S. President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, joined in the candle lighting. The president said, "I speak for all of us when we say that America's support for our friend and ally Israel remains unshakable during these difficult times."
