Members of Knesset Dr. Michael Ben-Ari and Dr. Aryeh Eldad of the Otzma LeYisrael party have released new election campaign posters in Arabic. The signs, roughly translated, say "no representation without taxation." It is a reference to their accusation that some members of the Arabic-speaking community in Israel evade paying taxes.
In response, the chairman of the Election Committee, Judge Eliakim Rubinstein said he has the right to ban the ads. On Wednesday he stated that it would be perceived as inappropriate to post the advertisements in Arabic-speaking communities within Israel and that they bordered on racism.
Dr. Ben-Ari and Dr. Eldad said in response, "you cannot call the use of one of the official languages of the State of Israel racist. With rights come obligations. This is a basic requirement in any normal country."
