IDF May Allow Troops to Fire Toward Rioters

The Israel Defense Force is considering changing the rules of engagement in light of two serious incidents in the last few days. The IDF said the process of deciding whether to open fire at rioters is ultimately the decision of the soldier on duty.

A senior commander in Judea and Samaria said that when there is a recognition of a threatening situation, the rules allow him to fire "when it comes to an immediate threat."

In a recent incident, soldiers recognized that a riot situation was being recorded by the rioters for propaganda purposes, thus the soldiers chose to vacate the premises.
