Striking nurses will leave hospital wards with minimal night staffing for four hours, starting Tuesday morning at 9:00. Except in life-threatening cases, that means two nurses per ward. Surgical nurses will only work emergency cases. The move follows the failure of Finance Ministry representatives to appear at Monday's negotiations on salary and staffing.
The Clalit Health Fund is joining the Health Ministry and the Treasury in applying to the Tel Aviv District Labor Court for an injunction against the strike. The Finance Ministry accused the Nurses Federation of refusing to engage in "real negotiations" and to seriously discuss the ministry's proposals. The ministry added that the strike violates the current collective bargaining agreement, which calls for no sanctions before the end of the month.
