Morsi Freezes Sales-Tax Hike

Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi has decided to freeze an increase in the sales tax on consumer goods and services that was announced Sunday, according to a Monday-morning report on the Website of the semi-official Al-Ahram daily. Morsi also ordered his government to undertake a "social dialogue" on the steps before they are implemented.

The newspaper cited Morsi's official Facebook page, which said, "Morsi does not want to impose an additional burden on the Egyptian people without broad consensus."
