Tel Aviv District Court Judge Varda Alshich issued an arrest warrant Wednesday against the chef Eyal Shani, for 45 days. The order will come into effect on Sunday and will only be nullified if Shani pays all his debts by then to the bankruptcy fund, if not Shani will face jail time.
Shani, who, a celebrated chef and one of the judges on the Israeli version of Master Chef, filed for bankruptcy in 2011. He was ordered to pay creditors NIS 1.45 million ($385,000) over the next two years as part of his settlement.
The warrant was issued because Alshich found Shani's testimony on his income to be different than how she saw the reality of the situation. Shani is partners in three top restaurants but claims he does not make an income high enough to pay back his debts.
