Hamas will allow the return to Gaza of 20 Fatah members who fled during the heavy fighting in 2007 that led to the Hamas takeover of the southern Mediterranean coastal area, according to a senior Fatah official cited, Monday, by the Bethlehem-based Ma'an news agency. Jamal 'Abid said Hamas has officially informed Fatah of the decision but has not submitted a list of the people who will be allowed to return.
Gaza Interior Minister Fathi Hamad said, Sunday, that Hamas will grant amnesty to those who turn themselves in and admit to cooperating with Israel. He added that family and friends will not be informed of their confessions. During the Pillar of Defense counter-terror operation, seven Gaza residents suspected of cooperating with Israel were publicly executed.
