Egypt Sentences Man to Death Over Anti-Mohammed Film

A court in Egypt has sentenced Nader Fawzi, a resident of the Toronto district of Scarborough, to death for being involved in the production of the “Innocence of Muslims” film which mocks the prophet Mohammed. According to a report in Shalom Toronto, Fawzi was sentenced in absentia and the sentencing has been transferred to the Egyptian Mufti who will give it the validity of a fatwa.

Fawzi, who left Egypt in 1986 and lived in Sweden before moving to Toronto in 2002, has denied any connection to the film. He recently said in an interview that he is being persecuted by Egypt for being an outspoken critic of both the former and current regimes over their corruption and violation of human rights as well as the rights of Coptic Christians.
