Egypt: Activists Claim Paid Rape, Backed by Government

The Muslim Brotherhood, Egypt’s new ruling party, has been paying men to sexually assault women who protest against President Mohamed Morsi, according to activists quoted by Britain’s Times. Activists also claimed the government is paying thugs to beat up male protesters.

Human rights activist Magda Adly said the Mubarak government had used similar measures to fight protesters.

Mass demonstrations have been held in recent days protesting Morsi’s decision to expand his own powers.
