Chairman Mahmoud Abbas of the Palestinian Authority (PA) opened his speech on behalf of non-member state status, Thursday, at the United Nations, by saying Israel's recent campaign against terror originating in Gaza showed the need to end what he called "the occupation".

He called the UN vote a last chance for the two-state solution of an Arab state next to Israel.
