Rabbi Dov Lior, the rabbi of Kiryat Arba, was heckled by a group of reservists last week while visiting soldiers near Gaza, IDF Radio (Galei Tzahal) reports. Other soldiers, some of whom had asked the rabbi to come, supported his presence and attempted to listen to him despite shouting from his opponents.
Those who opposed Rabbi Dov Lior’s presence said they are against his political positions, particularly his approbation for a book of halacha (Jewish law) that made controversial statements regarding treatment of enemy civilians in a time of war.
“We explained to the troops about his behavior and the book,” they said. “We aren’t against religious people or rabbis, but against what this rabbi represents, and we voiced that truth loudly.”
