This Shabbat's Torah portion (Vayetze, Genesis 28:10-32:3) marks biblical patriarch Jacob's first visit to Beit El, and the modern Binyamin-region Jewish community is celebrating its 35th anniversary.
Local Council Head Moshe Rosenbaum told Arutz Sheva that the 16 initial families lived in barracks with soldiers. Current construction developments include an eight-story building, the first one in the community to have an elevator. Rosenbaum said, "More people in Israel and around the world understand our desire to live in Judea and Samaria." He added, "We have no doubt that in a few years we will become a city in Israel."
