Several Israeli elected officials expressed skepticism that the ceasefire would hold. Member of Knesset Dr. Michael Ben-Ari (Otzma L'Yisrael Party) warned that the ceasefire would be seen by Hamas as raising a white flag of surrender. Member of Knesset Yaakov Katz (National Union Party) compared the ceasefire to the Disengagement in which the Jewish communities of Gaza were removed. Member of Knesset Uri Ariel(National Union Party) warned that some southern residents might feel that they are still vulnerable. Sderot Mayor David Buskila, stated, "I hope that the ceasefire will last..."
