China Calls for 'Maximum Restraint', Emphasizing Israel

China on Monday called for "maximum restraint" by all parties, especially Israel, in the recent conflict.

The statement came as Israel continues its surgical raids against Hamas in the Gaza Strip, in an attempt to root out terrorist activity threatening the Jewish state.

"We strongly urge relevant parties, in particular Israel, to exercise maximum restraint," said Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying.

"China supports Arab countries' just position on the Israeli-Arab issue."
