Thursday marked the first day that Shlomo Ben-Tzvi became owner of the financially-troubled Ma'ariv daily, its nrg Website and a number of associated magazines and local newspapers. The new ownership hired 350 of the members of the staff let go by the old ownership, including journalists, editors and graphic artists. The new ownership issued a statement calling those employees the backbone which will lead the staff.
The statement said the rehiring of the 350 employees was in keeping with the new company's committments to the court which oversaw the transfer and to its signed agreements. It added, "The hiring of the employees completes the continued publishing of the newspaper according to the high standards and rules that the organization has set for itself and by virtue of which the newspaper has acquired hundreds of thousands of loyal readers across the country."
