Police Now Say American Student Committed Suicide

As details of the William Hershkovitz case are still being investigated, the Southern District police have announced they believe that Hershkovitz committed suicide in a hotel room, as reported by Yedioth Achronoth news. It was previously reported that he had been killed by police in an exchange of gunfire. Hershkovitz is suspected of murdering Armando al-Abed at a hotel in Eilat. The 23-year-old was a Jewish-American student from the New York area who came to Israel as part of a work-study program.

Initial reports say that an argument erupted between him and Abed, to whom he was assigned to work with at the hotel as part of the program. The incident is still in the process of being investigated.
