Teaching Students Study Torah 'for Its Own Sake'

Midrash Beit Raban, a new study program for learning Torah, was intitiated at the Giv'at Washington College, near Ashdod. Under the program, every student in the college will spend a two-hour lesson of Torah "for its own sake". Following "havruta" learning in pairs, students will address certain angles of the material. This year, the focus will be on marriage and the family.

Giv'at Washington leaders say the program is intended to make sure there is some Torah study for every student to pass on to the students they will teach, no matter what their specialty. The Sunday timing of the lesson is intended to extend the light of Shabbat from the day before.
