The security officer at Jerusalem's central bus station announced, Friday, that off-duty soldiers in the Hesder yeshiva program would resume having the same exemption from security checks enjoyed by other soldiers. The exemption was taken away about two months ago as part of changes in security procedures at the facility.
The restoration of the exemption was brought about by efforts of the Young Leadership of the Ichud Le'umi (National Union) party, which contacted the police and the company handling security at the bus station. In thanking the security officer, the Ichud Le'umi group said, "There's no reason to discriminate against yeshiva students when they are learning in yeshiva, and we're glad that the matter was resolved for the best." The group invited others with ombudsman needs to be in contact with them.
