      Romani Residents Seek Israeli Citizenship

The Romani community in Jerusalem is seeking Israeli citizenship, Maariv/nrg reports. The community numbers approximately 2,000 people, most of them living in the Old City of Jerusalem.

Community leaders said that members have largely taken on the customs of their Arab Muslim neighbors, but that they remain separate as many Arabs view them as racially inferior. Their lack of citizenship has meant that many have trouble finding work, they said.
