The Attorney General of the Association for Civil Rights, Dan Yakir, responded Tuesday to a decision made by the mayor of Modiin last Hol Hamoed Sukkot to close the gates of Anabe park to non residents of the city. The reasoning for this was that the mayor wanted to prevent Haredim from coming to the park en masse.

In a letter, Yakir wrote that denying park access to non residents is illegal, violates equality, and is discriminatory against the religious population. He added that it is a public park and therefore the mayor has no right to restrict access.
