UN Envoy Vows to Press On Despite Syrian Truce Failure

Lakhdar Brahimi, the United Nations and Arab League envoy charged with trying to stop the fighting between government and opposition forces in Syria, said, Monday, "I have said, and it bears repeating again and again, that the Syrian crisis is very, very dangerous. The situation is bad and getting worse." During a news conference in Moscow, where he met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Brahimi expressed sorrow at the failure of the truce for the Muslim sacrifice holiday of Eid Al-Adha, and continued, "It will not discourage us because Syria is very important and the people of Syria deserve our support and interest."

Opposition forces said 113 people were killed in clashes on Monday, the last day of the festival.
