Treasurer Yuval Steinitz and Agriculture Minister Orit Noked signed an agreement, Sunday, for a wholesale produce market in the Gush Dan region around Tel Aviv, to be established at the Mesubim Junction, using a B.O.T. competitive bidding process, which will be published in 10 months. The new market is intended to provide a significant improvement over the one temporarily operating in the Tzerifin area, and is expected to result in lower prices to the consumer.
The Finance Ministry explained that the new market will reduce the wholesale-retail gap by virtue of its being transparent and innovative in the wholesale trade. Its modern operating system is intended to reduce spoilage among the fresh produce.
