Minister of Science, Rabbi Daniel Hershkowitz explained his reasons for resigning from the leadership race for head of the Jewish Home Party in an interview on Tuedsay.
The Jewish Home Party, known in Hebrew as Bayit Yehudi, and formerly knwon a steh National Religious Party will hold its first ever primaries next month. Like many smaller parties, the NRP previously appointed its Knesset list and party head as opposed to holding primaries.
"Quite a few people approached me saying 'you are forcing us to choose between father and mother. We want you both." Thus, Hershkowitz joined with Member of Knesset Zeluvun Orlev rather than running against him. This leaves MK Orlev to run against Naftali Bennett. Regarding Bennett's status as a former advisor to Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu of the Likud Party, Rabbi Hershkowitz stated, "It's no secret that the Prime Minister did not want Naftali Bennett, but you must know that Bennett did not want Netanyahu as prime minister."
