Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu visited Jerusalem's Gilo neighborhood, accompanied by the Mayor of Jerusalem, Nir Barkat. The Prime Minister said during the visit that "united Jerusalem is the eternal capital of Israel. We have every right to build it. We are building Jerusalem and will continue to build Jerusalem. This is our policy and I will give a boost to construction in Jerusalem."
Gilo is located in southern Jerusalem near Talpiot. Between 1948 and 1967 it was occupied by the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. It was liberated in the 1967 Six Day War. It is is currently home to approximately 40,000 Jerusalemites.
