Rabbi: Heligman Synagogue Conversion 'Act of Satan'

Religious leades are scheduled to consult with attorneys, Tuesday, regarding an appeal of a Tel Aviv District Court decision that would convert the property housing the Heligman Synagogue on Rabbi Akiva Street in Bnei Brak to a residential building, as sought by heirs of the synagogue's founders.

Rabbi Aharon Yehuda Leib Steinman, who leads the Lithuanian hareidi-community, gave rabbinical permission to proceed with an appeal Monday evening, during a meeting with the synagogue's rabbi, Rabbi Avraham Yeshayahu Karelitz. Before that he said, "This is an act of Satan, who is prosecuting such a great place of Torah and prayer."
