Pinhas Avivi, former Israeli ambassador to Turkey, and current political director of the Israeli Foreign Ministry, told Turkish journalists Monday that he wished to extend an offer to hold talks with Turkey regarding the Syrian uprising which has spilled over into the country.

However, Turkish officials immediatly dismissed the offer, upset Israel used the media to send messages to Turkey instead of using direct dimplomatic requests.
