Gantz: Rabin Served as an Example of IDF Values

The Forum of the General Staff of the Israel Defense Forces held a conference in memory of former prime minister Yitzchak Rabin, Monday, at the Rabin Center in Tel Aviv, ahead of next week's observance of the 17th anniversary of his assassination. Chief of Staff Benny Gantz said, "For us in the IDF, the image of Rabin - as a soldier and as a commander - served as an example of the values on which the spirit of the IDF is based. The sense of calling, sticking to the mission, the pursuit of victory, personal example and deep friendship were the foundations of steel and action of his life's work."

Referring to the Six Day War of 1967, Gantz added, "Sitting on the same chair, 45 years later, I recognize that the current multi-front threat maybe looks different in its shades from that which stood before Rabin the chief of staff, but it is more realistic than ever. Maximum preparedness is demanded of us. Uncompromising sharpness and alertness. Being absolutely awake to the possibility that on any day, at any hour, this regional turmoil could become an active and dangerous confrontation before us."
