Carter: Morsi Won't Change Treaty Unless Israel Wants

President Shim'on Peres hosted, Sunday, a delegation from the "Elders" group of former leaders who deal in international issues, led by former United States president Jimmy Carter. The Elders are on a tour of the area to assess the status of the diplomatic process between Israel and the Palestinian Authority (PA). Visits with PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas and Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi were also on the itinerary.

Peres told Carter that without his involvement, the 1979 peace treaty would not have happened. Carter said that he had met with Morsi many times before and after Morsi's election, and asked him to respect the treaty. He said Morsi assured him that there would be no changes in existing agreements between the two countries unless Israel wants them.
