The Tel Aviv Stock Exchange opened the trading week, Sunday, with moderate to sharp losses on most of the indices. The TA Composite Index closed at 1,053.61, down 1.6 percent, while the TA 100 dropped 1.61 percent to 1,061,69, including a 1.48-percent decline to 1,199.19 by the Maof 25 most-widely-invested issues. The 50 stocks just outside the TA 100 fell 2.33 percent to 394.50.
The lone bright spot was the communications and media index, which rose .18 percent to 519.06. Worst hit were the insurance issues, which plunged 3.38 percent to 1001.72 as the financial institutions finished the day at 950.61, down 2.66 percent, including a 2.68-percent drop to 1,050.89 by the bank stocks. The oil and natural-gas index fell 3.32 percent to 1,053.57, followed by most of the technology issues, which closed at 339.57, down 2.43 percent, and the biomed issues, which declined 1.25 percent to 784.20. The real-estate index finished the day at 278.45, down 1.31 percent.
