Candidates backed by Palestinian Authority Chairman’s Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah movement suffered defeats in the recent PA municipal elections. Fatah list candidates won a majority in Hevron, but fared poorly in Shechem, Jenin, and even Ramallah, the PA’s seat of power.

In all three cities breakaway candidates won more votes than traditional Fatah candidates. Hamas boycotted the elections.
